GEEN has been founded in 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey with the support of The Republic of Turkey Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology; Techno-Entrepreneurship Capital Support Program. Major R&D operations are now located in Istanbul (@Sankara Research Center).
 
We opened our US HQs in 2016, and secured our initial funding round to make history. We started building GeenOS, world's first artificial biological life form. The study resulted in great advancements in genetic circuit technology.
Launching SynBio products in 2016: we started selling some of our homemade kits, plasmids & products online.
 
Focusing on GeenOS & Viral Cancer Therapy in 2017;
 
Pilot Launch of Intellivir Program in 2018: 
Under the program Intellivir, we started personalizing & enhancing Oncolytic Viruses as the first commercial application of GeenOS.
We are using advanced genetic circuits to train viruses on specific skills by directedly evolving them inside animal models.

We develop industrial strains of bacteria, yeast, plants using genome editing & directed evolution

Our Story

Our journey started with developing novel CRISPR/Cas9 systems, expression plasmids, engineered strains and cell lines for advanced recombinant production.
As a hobby though, we were enjoying ourselves by designing & building genetic circuits in the lab, experiencing the limits of synthetic biology.
After a couple of commercialization attempts with kits, strains & plasmids, we were unsatisfied with our products as they were not representing our best.
So we decided to build something outstanding, something that only we can build and of course using genetic circuits.
 
That's how we started building GeenOS, a universal plasmid to accurately run complex genetic circuits on. Then at some point during its development, we discovered that GeenOS was in fact, first of a kind living synthetic molecule, a man-made virus without a capsid.
It was huge, not just because it is the first completely man-made life form but the principles introduced to genetic circuitry during its development changed how we perceive genetic circuitry and its use.
 
However, it was a commercial failure despite being a technological wonder. Clearly, nobody was willing to pay for a universal biological operating system for genetic circuits. Finding a practical use for the system within the industry was very hard, in particular.
 
Until, we figured out that GeenOS was a perfect platform to build genetic circuits to control the evolution of living organisms from the inside. Especially, the evolution of viruses.

Thus, the concept of training viruses
 through evolution for the assignment of complex jobs within the body was enabled by GeenOS.
We built a genetic system called Intellify, using GeenOS and developed a procedure called AIVE (Intellivir). A method to train biological nanobots for purposes defined by humans.
 
We decided that, the best market application of this technology is to enhance & optimize cancer-killing viruses that are already in the market.

Intellivir appeared as a perfect technology to improve the immunomodulatory characteristics of cancer-killing viruses which is almost impossible with the previous evolutionary techniques. And also, enabled quick customization and adaption of a single viral population for each cancer patient. Tailor-made for their tumor and immune system without the requirement of any knowledge.
